The latest buzz in the movie world is Steven Spielberg's latest project: developing Stanley Kubrick's famously-aborted Napoleon project as a TV miniseries. Spielberg and Kubrick collaborated on A.I., with Spielberg finishing that movie after Kubrick's death. Kubrick's family have given their consent for this adaptation.
Spielberg and Kubrick's sensibilities don't really mesh, in this blogger's opinion. The screenplay is as an epic character study/period piece like Barry Lyndon, laced with Kubrick's customary cynicism, a far cry from Spielberg's mass. On the other hand, Lincoln recently showed Spielberg is capable of a cerebral biopic. Let's be cautiously optimistic.
