In accord with the Bishops of England and Wales recent move to re-introduce the abstinence from meat rule for Fridays, Mr Fred Bishop of Bishop's Whole & Organic Food Emporium of Chipping Sodbury has come up with the recommendation that vegetarians should abstain from tofu or, in the case of those who suffer from a tofu intolerance, nut cutlets to comply with the Friday rule.
This news has not been well received by a leading Catholic layman who also happens to be President of the Meat and Sausage Roll Marketing Board, Mr Chris P Crackling who firmly rejects the concept of Catholic vegetarians abstaining from vegetarian food on a Friday. "Us meat eating Catholics have to give up meat and go veggie each week so it's only fair that vegetarians eat a pork chop every Friday as an act of Penance" He told reporters at an impromptu press conference.
"I shall be taking this up with my Bishop at the first opportunity".
